THINGS TO DO

The mushroom drop on New Year's Eve kicks off our calendar of family-friendly and adult annual events. Toast friends at the intimate Winterfest or the larger Kennett Brewfest in the fall both are fund-raising events to help preserve and enhance our small town. Salute our flag in the area's largest Memorial Day parade. Polo matches and steeplechases are just a few of the many horse-related attractions in the area. The world-famous Mushroom Festival is one of the largest food festivals in the Mid-Atlantic states with an annual attendance of over 100,000 people. Halloween, Christmas tree lighting parades round out the year. Run and bike races that appeal to the beginner or advanced.  For those that want to stop and smell the roses, Longwood Gardens will overstimulate the senses.

History buffs have many outlets as well, the Brandywine Battle Field, Underground Railroad, and Winterthur is the premier museum of American decorative arts, with an unparalleled collection of nearly 90,000 objects made or used in America since 1640.

Building a sense of community, The Farmer’s Market supports many local farms and businesses weekly. Anson B. Nixon Park has trout rodeo, disc golf, many local nature trails, bike paths, rivers, this list can go on and on. Time to explore!
